This 50th Anniversary brand concept was for Kansas State University’s Interior Architecture & Product Design Department in their College of Architecture Planning and Design. For the creation of this identity we joined forces with Kansas City based designer Danny Shervington, who like our founder, is also an alumna of the IAPD program at K-State.
The IAPD department at K-State is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 programs (rankings are by Design Intelligence) of its kind in the country and much of that success is due to the well rounded academic curriculum. Graduates depart the program having undergone a rigorous curriculum that puts great emphasis on designing the whole environment. There is a shift in this program that engages both the “planning” and “making” aspects of the industry.
From space planning for a hospitality or retail space, to designing and fabricating the furniture for project solar house competition or a design-build project, we felt it important that the identity celebrate both the planning and making sides of the industry. As you can see in the graphic below there are a number of subtleties in the design cues of this mark that pander to the specifics of the IAPD student experience, and that will undoubtedly be the foundation for future success.
